Dealing With Out of Stock Items – Example from Dune.co.uk
A few weeks ago I wrote a post about how to deal with out of stock items. Today, we are going to have a look at dune.co.uk and how they deal with out of stock items.
Out of stock items means lost sales, especially if the items are being promoted via your newsletter or other marketing channel. In this post I would like to show you another interesting way of doing it from Dune.co.uk, to give you some inspiration for your online store.
The reason why I liked it and what the principle is:
In a nutshell, Dune.co.uk doesn’t display an out of stock items message, not even on the product page. Once you decide to purchase the product and you click on “Buy” button, a pop up window opens up where you can sign up for an email alert once the item is back in stock. It’s very simple and not distracting for your visitors and this pop up is shown to visitors who are really interested in purchasing the product (which they have demonstrated by clicking on “Buy” button). And obviously your visitors won’t be able to add the product to their shopping basket. Very clever.
