The majority of top online retailers are placing their email opt-in into the footer which is an approach I personally like because it’s always there on each page and it blends nicely with the site design. But, is it the best place to have it? Possibly not, as some visitors could miss it (even though I must admit I have become used to looking for email opt-in fields in the footer because it is used by so many top online retailers nowadays, that if I don’t see it there then I feel confused, but that’s just me), and therefore I believe a combination of somewhere above the fold and in the footer with incentives to get visitors to take action is probably the best option.
