Avoid These Website Redesign Pitfalls

Comments (4)

Website redesign is a big project and it’s not an easy thing to do. The biggest problem with website redesign is that you can see a traffic drop if you don’t protect your website’s most valuable assets, which are pages with high conversion rates, pages receiving a lot of organic traffic for your optimized keywords and those with a large number of inbound links. Destroy your assets and you will get a drop in traffic and leads.

What you also want to understand is what traffic brings you the conversion. Again you don’t want to loose that.

It’s vital that you protect those pages. Proimpact7.com recommends using internet marketing software from HubSpot.com before you decide to go ahead with your website redesign.

By using HubSpot software we are able to see which pages are the most valuable and then redirect them during the website redesign process, thus protecting your SEO efforts. Also if you change your domain, use 301 redirect for each individual page to protect your assets.

Below is a great webinar talking about these website redesign pitfalls from HubSpot.com. I feel that this is the webinar every website owner and online marketing professional should be familiar with. There is a lot of invaluable information in there to consider before you start planning your website redesign.

Great Jan! Due to the constant technological advances, a Web site that is not regularly updated will suffer several negative consequences. I think that redesigning a Web site is a great opportunity to become 2.0 and use attractive tools such as videos, colors and images. In other words, become modern and fresh adding multimedia tools which are fashionable today. Redesigning is also a must in order to be on truck in the online marketing field. Well, I’m beating around the bush… If you want to keep discussing this interesting topic, just see my post “When is it time to redesign your Website?” at blog.weboart.com Thanks!

      Hi Andrea

I am not disputing that website redesign is important, but it is wise to highlight some of the potential pitfalls if the activity is not managed carefully, because it does require skill and expertise. The first issue is that valuable free organic traffic may be lost if 301 redirect isn’t used properly. The second issue, as highlighted in my new post “website Redesign Pitfalls II”, is loss in revenue and how to properly approach launching a newly redesigned website to overcome this.

    Great video!
Especially the part about making websites that appeal.
There are too many sites out there which don\’t really mean anything to the viewers and the sad thing is the webmasters don\’t realize it!
    Again, great post :)
