10 Reasons For Usability Testing

Comments (0)

usability-testing-122What is usability testing? It is a technique used to evaluate a product or website by testing it on users. It allows you to observe users using your website to discover errors and areas for improvement.

Usability testing is not marketing research. With usability testing you watch people trying to use your website, based on the task given to them and assess wether or not the task has been achieved and how long it took.

At Proimpact7 we take usability testing very seriously and usability testing is part of the design and build project included in our price. Our advice: always make sure you do usability testing before your website is finished as any additional re-design work will cost you extra money.

10 reasons why you should do usability testing on your website now:

1. If you have had your website for months or years, you probably can’t see your website with fresh eyes anymore. You know your website up-side down and you can find anything on your site with 2-3 clicks. But can your visitors? The only way to find out if visitors can accomplish their tasks is to conduct usability testing.
2. You receive thousands of unique visitors per month, but your conversion rate is really low. With usability testing you could uncover that “little” problem causing your visitors to leave before you decide on a complete redesign.
3. High abandonment in your lead generation form or checkout? Before you start A/B testing why not to try usability testing first to see what is causing the problem?
4. We all know that e-mail newsletters drive loyal customers to your website but only a small percentage of your visitors subscribe to your newsletter? With usability testing you could find out whether it’s because it’s hard to find your e-mail subscription field or perhaps it’s not working properly.
5. Are you offering a “free trial” of your product but a high percentage of people don’t complete the download process? What about installing the product on their machine, is it easy or difficult?
6. Is your software easy to use? The only way to find out apart from sending surveys is to do usability testing as well.
7. Are your “calls to action” buttons clearly visible or do your visitors need to look for them?
8. Is it easy to add a product into the basket and then checkout?
9. Can your visitors easily find the price, watch the demo, book the test drive, find your free trial link, get a quote, find FAQs or contact you easily? All this can be found out by usability testing.
10. And finally, your website is running well, you are happy with your conversion rates, but would like to find out what else you could do to improve your sales or website -  so you can run usability test to make further improvements.

At Proimpact7.com we offer usability testing packages from £750 for 10 test users.
